Which Type of Coaching Niche Should I Choose?

Not sure what type of coaching niche is right for you? Discover most popular coaching niches among our students and graduates.

Most people who enrol in our ICF-certified coach training do it to either completely change their careers, create an additional revenue stream, or to bring new leadership capabilities to a corporate environment. While those personal drivers for change remain fairly consistent, the end results vary significantly when it comes to the different areas of coaching specialization (or coaching niche) that our students find themselves in upon graduating.

Using visual word sizes, the above Wordle app demonstrates how popular various coaching niches are among individuals who participate in our Experience Coaching webinar before embarking on their coaching journey. Note that these are people who are just setting out to find out more about the profession of coaching, and so these are areas that they plan to go into (this can quite easily change as people move through their coach training).

As you can see, Personal Life Coaching is the most popular niche, with Business/Entrepreneurial Coaching coming in second and followed by Executive Coaching.

What are the different areas of coaching?

Coaching specializations and niche preferences vary greatly among individual students and result in a vast array of possibilities. For instance, our coaching graduates went on to become relationship coaches, family coaches, addiction recovery coaches, cancer survivor coaches, student coaches…and the list goes on.

While we could attempt to list and describe all of these possibilities, this exercise might take a while, and so we thought that it would be best to provide you with a little taste of the types of coaching niches out there and let YOU determine which one resonates best with you and your skill sets or learning:
